Evergreen, perennial plant which forms clumps which look like Banana plants. The ovate, glaucous green leaves are 40-50 cm long and 15-20 cm wide and the stalks are 60 cm tall. Throughout the summer floral stalks appear at intervals at the end of which there are very unusual, large flowers. The floral stalks are taller than the tufts, they start from the foot and end in flowers with orange and yellow, lanceolate sepals and blue petals.
