Pieris ‘Forest Flame’ (Pieris Japonica ‘Forest Flame’) – Shrub

Best in acid or neutral soils, pieris are essential spring border shrubs. Elsewhere, they will grow exceptionally well in containers of lime-free, ericaceous, compost. A beautiful variety of evergreen Silverthorn. Its colourful leaves give it a bright and lively appearance.

Our Gilt Edge shrubs have long oval-shaped leaves that are dark green in the centre, surrounded by lemony yellow margins. Their glossy leather texture catches the sunlight making the hedgerow sparkle as if gilded in glittering gold (hence the name “gilt edge”). Gilt Edge Silverthorn also produces tiny cream-coloured flowers, which produce a wonderful sweet aroma towards the end of the day.

Topiary Triple Arch (Hedera Hibernica)

This stunning topiary is made from clipped Hedera Hibernica.

Hedera are evergreen climbing shrubs clinging by aerial roots. Clusters of small yellow-green flowers are followed by usually black berries. Foliage of flowering shoots is often less deeply lobed than that of the sterile, climbing shoots. H. hibernica is a vigorous large evergreen climber with broad, 5-lobed dark green leaves to 12 cm in width. Small greenish flowers in umbels are followed by black berries. The plant itself is hardy for the British climate at H5 and only needs sheltering in an extreme cold snap. The plant is prone to potential diseases and pests so take care. The plant can grow in full shade.
